Nuclear - a form of energy released when atomic nuclei of radioactive elements such as uranium undergo fission (splitting) or fusion (forcing together). Once heralded as a safe, cheap, and clean means of energy, nuclear power has sharply decreased in popularity in recent decades because of concerns over the safety of the plants themselves as well as problems storing and disposing of the radioactive waste produced by the plants.
